Ready for Reading hosted a fantastic training session for librarians, bringing together participants from four different organizations across various regions of the country. The sessions delved into five essential topics and featured engaging, hands-on activities, all aimed at improving the quality of literacy programs and promoting access to learning for all.
The training covered Storytelling Techniques, Literature and Story Selection, Cultural Competence, Sensitivity, Ethics, and Legal Considerations, Audience Engagement and Interaction, and Literacy in Special Populations and Outreach. Participants were encouraged to share their own stories and experiences, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Trainers emphasized empathy and understanding as key to connecting with diverse audiences, highlighting the power of storytelling as a bridge across cultures and experiences.
Through interactive exercises and role-playing, participants explored how to better understand and respond to the needs of special populations, ensuring their approaches remain inclusive and respectful, leaving no one behind.
By the end of the training, 96% of participants reported feeling more confident and better equipped to lead impactful sessions that not only educate but inspire their communities. The energy and commitment in the room were palpable, as participants left eager to apply what they’d learned and make a tangible difference in the lives of those they serve.
